Lee Baron x Nike Closing Light: 300 Runners Come Together for a Sunset Run in Huntsville

On August 14, hundreds of runners came together in Huntsville for an evening built around movement, music, and community.

Hosted at Lee Baron in partnership with Nike, Closing Light brought 300 runners together for a sunset rhythm run celebrating the Nike Vomero Pack and the growing running community in Huntsville.

The event began at Lee Baron's 11th Street location before taking participants out into the city as daylight gave way to dusk and, eventually, night. Along the way, runners experienced Nike sneaker education, custom T-shirt activations, live music, recovery, giveaways, and plenty of opportunities to connect with one another.

But at the center of everything was the run itself and the community that showed up for it.

Before the First Mile

The evening began at 7:30 PM as runners arrived at Lee Baron for check-in and pre-run activities.

Before heading out, participants had an opportunity to learn more about the Nike Vomero Plus and Vomero Premium sneakers from the Nike EKIN team. The experience gave runners a closer look at the footwear while keeping the focus where it belonged: getting ready to move.

A live Nike T-shirt customization station added another interactive element, with 165 shirts customized throughout the evening.

There was also a sunset-inspired digital photo experience where runners could capture the moment before the group took to the streets.

As people arrived from different parts of Huntsville and the surrounding running community, what started as a check-in line quickly became something more social.

Before the first mile was ever logged, people were already connecting.

Chasing the Closing Light

At 8:15 PM, runners gathered for a welcome stretch and route overview.

Fifteen minutes later, 300 participants headed out together for the Closing Light run.

The timing was intentional. The run began during the final stretch of daylight and continued as Huntsville transitioned from sunset into night, giving the event its name and much of its creative identity.

Guest speaker Terry Williams, M.Ed., CSCS, spoke to runners about cadence, recovery, purpose, and finding a reason to keep moving.

Meanwhile, Thomas the Square provided the soundtrack for the evening with a mobile DJ setup that carried the energy from the opening stretch through the final portion of the event.

There was no finish-line podium or emphasis on who crossed first.

Closing Light was about running together.

Recovery and Connection

After the group returned around 9:15 PM, the evening shifted into recovery and community time.

Runners were welcomed back with smoothies powered by Smoothie King, along with Nike x Lee Baron giveaways that included towels and water bottles.

More importantly, people stayed.

They talked, recovered, met other runners, and spent time together after the route was complete.

That part of the evening reflected what Closing Light was designed to create. Running may have provided the reason for everyone to gather, but the relationships forming around it were just as important.

300 Runners, One Community

Closing Light brought together 300 participants from across Huntsville's running community.

The night also included 165 customized Nike T-shirts, 200 towel and water bottle giveaways, live music, a digital sunset photo activation, and support from Nike Run Club, FASS Run Club, and ACE Run Club.

For Lee Baron, a Huntsville sneaker boutique with deep ties to footwear and streetwear culture, the event was an opportunity to bring another part of sneaker culture into the community in a more active way.

Nike sneakers may have helped inspire the event, but the people wearing them, running beside one another, and staying to connect afterward are what defined the night.

A Different Kind of Friday Night in Huntsville

Closing Light was created around the launch of the Nike Vomero Pack, but it became much more than a sneaker event.

It was an opportunity for experienced runners, casual runners, local run clubs, and people simply interested in being part of something new to come together.

The progression of the evening mirrored the sunset itself. Golden hour became dusk. Dusk became night. Music filled the street, runners filled the route, and a group of people who may not all have known one another at the beginning of the evening shared the same miles by the end.

That is what Closing Light was ultimately about.

Work ended. The music started. The streets filled with runners.

And Huntsville chased the closing light together.
